SERVIR TA VILLE

Great job on Saturday; we were able to meet some new people, hopefully practice some French, and also clean up our city!
Although some of us got a little dirty, and we ate our lunches after picking up a forest full of trash, we had a good time, and got to explore a beautiful park.
If you have any observations, stories, or things that you learned in the time we volunteered, please share them in a comment of this post!
Thanks!
Looking forward to serving with all of you again soon!

Well, I guess there were two really important moments for me during the work we did on Saturday. At one point while we were cleaning our first section of forest, a man was walking along the park path and saw me through the trees. He asked me in french if we were cleaning. I said yes and he responded by saying, "If all the world were like you, there would be no problems." I think cleaning for others, either figuratively or literally, we may be able to better our world.
The second important moment for me occurred when we were approaching the end of our task. I found myself tired, sore, and slightly annoyed by the difficulty of our task. Then I saw some children playing near the edge of the forest. They weren't being supervised and they couldn't have been more than ten years old. And I realized what I had been doing all day searching in the woods for broken bottles and possibly syringes. We need to care for the generations after us, just as others before us cared for us.
Someone once told me that Christianity is only ever one generation from extinction. All it takes is for one generation of people to not care about the next.

wow..what a great experience. I am so glad that I got to participate in helping out our community. I am now getting to better understand the people of this area as well as more about the country itself. Seeing the way other people think and live has really opened my eyes to the limited perspective I have had of this world. I am excited for the projects to come and learning more about the different sides of this world.
